Indian citizens need a visa to enter Vietnam. A 90-day e-visa suits tourism and short business trips, while employees need a work permit and the matching visa.
Arrivals from India have grown quickly in recent years, along with the number of IT professionals, engineers and chefs coming to work. Indian citizens are not visa-exempt, so a visa has to be obtained before travel.
E-visa
An e-visa is valid for up to 90 days, single or multiple entry, with a government fee of USD 25 or USD 50. It is applied for online and is usually issued in 3 working days, longer in peak season. Individuals cannot get a visa at the port of entry without prior approval.
Coming to work
- The employer in Vietnam files the work permit application.
- The employee enters on a work visa.
- A temporary residence card follows, valid for up to 2 years in line with the work permit.
- A spouse and children apply for family visas and family residence cards.
Documents from India
Applications usually need degrees, experience letters and a Police Clearance Certificate issued in India. Documents must be attested in India and legalised by a Vietnamese mission, then translated and certified in Vietnam.
Notes
- Indian passports do not always separate surname and given name clearly. Enter your name exactly as in the code lines at the bottom of the passport page.
- Experience letters must state the position and the dates of employment.
- Flying directly to Phu Quoc has its own visa exemption, but it does not cover travel to the mainland.
